The Chamber Choir Vokal Nord is based in Tromsø, and is described as one of Norway’s leading vocal ensembles.

Vokal Nord and guests celebrate the Advent time with rhythms and music from the world of tango. This evening, Martin Palmeri’s Misatango takes center stage; A fantastic work where the tango’s rhythms and melodies blend into the universe of church music. Conductor Alejandro Pance leads Vokal Nord for the occasion and has brought a brilliant house orchestra with bandoneonist Andreas Rokseth in the lead! There will also be other musical treats from the conductor’s homeland, Argentina.

Misatango by Martín Palmeri has become in recent years one of the most popular and performed Argentine pieces worldwide. Dedicated to Buenos Aires, the fair combines tango rhythms with the classical Latin liturgy; From melodies that remind us of Piazzolla to fugues that may hint at Beethoven. The line-up is typical of a ‘new-tango’ orchestra, (on this occasion a smaller ensemble) with the bandoneón as the main instrument, a type of accordion introduced by German sailors and immigrants to Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo (Uruguay) in the 1880s the years. Within a short time, the bandoneon gained a central role in tango music, and became world famous with, among others, Astor Piazzolla.

Martín Palmeri is a composer, choral conductor, pianist and arranger. He is constantly invited around to perform his own music – 2015 in Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, 2017 in the Wiener Konzerthaus, 2019 in Carnegie Hall, USA.
