Organ Safari

The Organ Safari is an annual event held as a part of Tromsø International Church Festival. We will be taken by bus to view four of the city’s pipe organs: at the Conservatory of Music, Grønnåsen Church, the Arctic Cathedral, and Tromsø Cathedral.

40 years have passed since the first students graduated with a degree in Organ Studies from the Conservatory in Tromsø. To celebrate, the course leader, Eilert Magnus Hægeland, composed a partita based on the psalm “Keep up, God, with us your word”, which he dedicated to his students. This partita will be played on three of the four pipe organs from this year’s safari. In Tromsø Cathedral we will hear “Spiegel im Spielgel” by Arvo Pärt. Knut Hansvold will be our guide in the bus.

 

The bus departs from Tromsø Cathedral at 18:00.
