SAUL! Thoughts in the Advent
In the advent the, time of reflection and expectation, the university choir Mimas will revive the story of Saul’s conversion. Egil Hovland’s version of this biblical story has become one of the most significant works in Norwegian literature.
On this occasion Mimas collaborates with the renowned concert organizer Tonje Braaten, who will also perform two solo numbers. The audience will have the opportunity to hear the beautiful combination of powerful organ sound and choir song in a work by John Ireland, a representative of “English Impressionism”, as well as in in a recently written work by Justin Vickery, an English born composer living in Norway.
The concert opens with music by the Scottish composer James MacMillan, as well as two Scandinavian composers. The choir will also perform two works for women’s choir, written by the young, but already internationally known Slovenian composer Andrej Makor.
The choir will also perform some a cappella songs dedicated to the pre-Christmas season.
